Ben Rothwell suffered broken arm before finishing Alistair Overeem
Ben Rothwell was impressive at UFC Fight Night on Friday in dispatching of Alistair Overeem with a first-round TKO stoppage.
Even more impressive is that he apparently suffered a broken arm during the fight. While the bout lasted just 139 seconds, it was long enough for Rothwell to block an Overeem kick awkwardly with his arm, breaking the appendage. As the 6-foot-4, 262 pound Rothwell tells it, well, thank goodness for the human fight-or-flight system:
I ate a kick, didn’t block it properly and he broke it. I knew I did not want to block a kick wrong again. I had a feeling that something could have been wrong. That’s the good thing about a fight, the adrenaline’s going.
Hopefully for his sake, the injury heals quick, as Rothwell (34-9) has some momentum with consecutive victories and Friday's statement performance, his first outing since a nine-month suspension for a positive test for elevated testosterone levels.
