Nate Diaz asks for his release from the UFC on Twitter
It looks as though Nate Diaz wants to join his brother Nick as an ex-UFC fighter.
The less bombastic, but equally passionate Diaz brother has compiled a 12-7 record in the UFC (17-9 in MMA), beating top lightweights like Gray Maynard, Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone, while faltering against the very tippy-top of the division. He's essentially the definition of a 'gatekeeper' in the best possible sense.
Diaz, the fifth-ranked lightweight in the UFC, is walking away mere days after long time Cesar Gracie teammate Gilbert Melendez signed a very lucrative deal with the UFC that includes a spot coaching on The Ultimate Fighter, and an eventual title shot with lightweight kingpin Anthony Pettis.
