Hernandez says he'd 'drown' Chimaev in fight
UFC middleweight contender Anthony "Fluffy" Hernandez is confident he can halt Khamzat Chimaev's reign.
Hernandez said Saturday night after Chimaev dominated Dricus Du Plessis to capture the 185-pound title at UFC 319 in Chicago that he believes he'd "drown" Chimaev in the Octagon.
"Call me for the fight," Hernandez told ESPN Deportes' Carlos Contreras Legaspi. "I can wrestle, I can do jiu-jitsu, I can stop all his shit, and I can shut him down. With my gas tank, I'll drown him, I promise. I'll make him f-----g work.
"So, call me, keep me in mind, guys, and I think you guys will have a new f-----g Mexican-American champion."
The UFC has yet to determine Chimaev's next opponent, though Hernandez could be in the running for a title shot. The No. 7-ranked middleweight delivered his own dominant performance in last weekend's UFC Fight Night main event, submitting Roman Dolidze in the fourth round. Hernandez, 31, has won eight in a row and is unbeaten since 2020.
Chimaev has expressed interest in making a quick turnaround to defend his belt at UFC 321 on Oct. 25 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
