O'Malley thinks he beat Dvalishvili: 'I am the champ'
Former UFC bantamweight champion Sean O'Malley watched his fight against Merab Dvalishvili for the first time Thursday and concluded that he should've won.
O'Malley dropped the title to Dvalishvili in a unanimous decision loss at UFC 306 last weekend at Sphere in Las Vegas. The judges scored the fight 49-46, 48-47, and 48-47 in Dvalishvili's favor after the Georgian outstruck O'Malley, scored six takedowns, and compiled over 10 minutes of control time on the ground.
However, O'Malley believes he took Rounds 1, 3, and 5. He provided a round-by-round breakdown on X.
O'Malley joked that he is still "the champ" and will defend the belt against Umar Nurmagomedov next summer.
"I challenge all you f-----g little dorks that think I got my ass kicked to go rewatch that fight. ... Rewatch that fight, turn the commentary off, and tell me I did not win that fight," O'Malley said on X Spaces.
O'Malley asked the UFC and its broadcast partner ESPN to upload the fight to YouTube.
O'Malley was defending the title for the second time at UFC 306. He knocked out Dvalishvili's teammate, Aljamain Sterling, to become the champion in August 2023 and kept the throne with a lopsided win over Marlon "Chito" Vera at UFC 299 in March.
"Suga" will be out of action for the foreseeable future: He revealed earlier this week that he tore the labrum in his left hip 10 weeks before the loss to Dvalishvili. O'Malley is scheduled to undergo surgery Oct. 3 and could be sidelined for up to one year.
