Poirier contemplating retirement after UFC 302: 'This is it for me'

Dustin Poirier's fight with Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 could be his last.

"I'm not sure, man," Poirier said of the June 1 fight, according to Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports. "This could be the last one. ... I'm still on the fence, win or lose. I just want to be content with my career."

The 35-year-old is challenging for his third undisputed title. He's previously fallen short in bouts against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.

Poirier said that he's "not going to climb the ladder again" despite believing he's "capable of anything."

"I've been doing this a long time. It's a very selfish sport. I'm ready to be a father and be a husband and be home and be into a routine."

He added: "I can do it again. It's just ... this is it for me."

"The Diamond" has gone 7-3 in his last 10 fights, including the defeats to Nurmagomedov and Oliveira and a loss to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291.

Even with retirement on the horizon, Poirier says he won't let his guard down against Makhachev, the promotion's top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter.

"I'm looking at the brighter side and trying to be positive that I'm going to finish the story and seal the deal and become undisputed lightweight champ after my 31st fight in the UFC," he said.
