The UFC will release flyweight Igor Severino after the 20-year-old Brazilian was disqualified for biting his opponent in a fight Saturday.

Severino was making his Octagon debut against Andre Lima on the UFC Fight Night preliminary card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

While in the clinch midway through the second round, Lima complained to referee Chris Tognoni about a bite on his arm. Following a review by Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) officials, Tognoni disqualified Severino at the 2:52 mark of the round.

Here's a closer look at the bite mark:

UFC CEO Dana White told MMA reporter Kevin Iole that the promotion will cut Severino.

"Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters," White said. "If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he's going to have real problems with the NSAC."

Lima was scheduled to receive a $25,000 postfight bonus following the incident, but White plans to double that after Lima got a tattoo to commemorate the incident.

Severino fell to 9-1 as a pro with the defeat, while Lima, also fighting in the UFC for the first time, is now 8-0.
