Bisping says Aspinall would beat Jones: 'He's that good'

It would be an understatement to say UFC color commentator and former middleweight champion Michael Bisping is confident in Tom Aspinall's abilities.

Bisping said earlier this week that he believes Aspinall, the heavyweight contender who finished Marcin Tybura in under two minutes in last weekend's UFC London main event, has what it takes to dethrone champion Jon Jones.

"(Jones is) one of the greatest of all time," Bisping told Sky Sports' Nik Hobbs. "I don't think he can hold a candle to Tom. I think Tom will do the same thing to Jon Jones as what he did to Marcin Tybura. I don't think there's anyone that can stop Tom Aspinall. He's that good. He's that switched on."

"I do 100% believe he will be the champion," Bisping added.

Aspinall, 30, returned to the Octagon - and the win column - after suffering a severe knee injury 15 seconds into a July 2022 fight. Following the win over Tybura, Aspinall said he wants to face the winner of Ciryl Gane versus Serghei Spivac and then challenge Jones for the title.

Jones, a former longtime light heavyweight champ who won the heavyweight belt in March, is scheduled to defend it against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on Nov. 11. He's never truly lost in MMA.

Bisping, who commentated the UFC London event, was more than impressed with Aspinall's comeback.

"Tom Aspinall was utterly fantastic," Bisping said. "That's one of the best performances I've ever seen from a heavyweight."
