Font steps in vs. Sandhagen at UFC Nashville

Top bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen will still get to headline UFC Nashville.

Rob Font is stepping up on short notice to face Sandhagen in the Aug. 5 five-round main event, the UFC announced Thursday.

Font replaces Umar Nurmagomedov, who withdrew earlier this week due to an injury. Sandhagen-Font will be a 140-pound catchweight bout, according to MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn.

Before agreeing to step in against Sandhagen, Font had been scheduled to face Song Yadong at UFC 292 on Aug. 19. But Song recently pulled out of that matchup, MMA Junkie's Nolan King reports.

Font, the No. 7-ranked bantamweight, scored a massive knockout win over Adrian Yanez at UFC 287 in April. That victory snapped a two-fight skid and was his first since May 2021.

Sandhagen, ranked No. 4, is coming off a dominant decision win over Marlon Vera in a UFC Fight Night main event in March. He's won two in a row.
