Report: Swanson returning to featherweight vs. Dawodu at Aug. 12 UFC event
UFC veteran Cub Swanson is headed back to the division in which he made his name.
Swanson is set to face Hakeem Dawodu in a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Night on Aug. 12 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, a source told MMA Junkie's Nolan King and Mike Bohn.
Swanson also referenced the matchup in an Instagram post.
The 39-year-old dropped down to bantamweight last October and fell to up-and-comer Jonathan Martinez by second-round TKO. That was his first time competing at 135 pounds since his early pro days in 2004-06. Swanson was a longtime contender at 145 pounds during his prime, beating the likes of Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, and Jeremy Stephens.
Swanson is 3-2 in his last five Octagon appearances, which include knockout finishes of Daniel Pineda and Darren Elkins in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
Dawodu will return to action for the first time since dropping a unanimous decision to Julian Erosa last September. The Calgary native was scheduled to compete earlier in June at UFC 289 in Vancouver but withdrew. He has gone 1-2 in his last three fights but had won five in a row before that.
The Aug. 12 event will feature a welterweight bout between Vicente Luque and former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
