UFC 283 best bets: Is Brazil getting a new champ?

Saturday's UFC 283 features a light heavyweight fight for the vacant title between Glover Teixeira and Jamahal Hill.

Also on the card, flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and interim champ Brandon Moreno will meet for a record fourth time.

Before the action gets underway at Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, here are the two best bets for the event.

Glover Teixeira (+113) vs. Jamahal Hill

This isn't a gimme fight for Teixeira. As they say, power is the great equalizer in mixed martial arts. And Hill has a lot of it; just ask Johnny Walker or Jimmy Crute. If Hill can touch Teixeira with his fists, he has a chance to put him away.

But how often will Teixeira and Hill be on the feet? Teixeira is one of the most relentless grapplers at 205 pounds, and Hill has iffy takedown defense at best. This could signal trouble for Hill. Ultimately, it's hard to see the ageless wonder in Teixeira not taking advantage of a favorable stylistic matchup.

Sure, every round in MMA starts on the feet, but all Teixeira needs is one takedown and it could be game over. Count on the 43-year-old Brazilian to avoid Hill's heavy strikes in the opening minutes and begin to work his grappling game for an eventual submission victory.

With a recent history of overwhelming younger fighters who were favored to win, Teixeira is an easy bet at plus money.

Figueiredo-Moreno over 4.5 rounds (-150)

Figueiredo and Moreno squared off in three championship bouts already, and twice they went all 25 minutes. (Moreno submitted Figueiredo in the second fight.) That's a sign of what's to come in this weekend's tetralogy fight.

Generally speaking, the more time two fighters spend in the cage together, the more competitive their matchups become. Figueiredo knows what Moreno does well, and Moreno knows what Figueiredo does well. There isn't much room for surprises.

Taking a closer look at their individual records, Figueiredo and Moreno simply don't get finished often. Figueiredo has two career losses and Moreno is the only person who has stopped him. What's even more impressive is that Moreno has fallen short six times as a professional (including once to Figueiredo) and all were decisions. Moreno, a native of Mexico, is about as durable and tough as they come.

We're likely in for another close fight between these two rivals, so chances are we'll get another decision victory on either side. Take the over and thank us later.
