White excited about Pimblett: 'He's got that Conor McGregor vibe'
Is Paddy Pimblett the next Conor McGregor? UFC president Dana White seems to think it's a possibility.
"To talk about championship stuff right now, it's a little too soon. But he's got that Conor McGregor vibe, man," White told reporters Tuesday when asked if he thinks Pimblett could be a champion one day, according to MMA Junkie. "When he walks out, when he's in the arena, the way that the fans receive him, the way that the media covers him, the way that the people search for content."
Pimblett, a charismatic lightweight from Liverpool, is currently one of the UFC's most talked-about prospects. He's arguably already one of the most high-profile names on the roster.
The 27-year-old, who was already a relatively popular fighter before signing with the promotion in 2021, improved his Octagon record to 3-0 last weekend with a submission win over Jordan Leavitt at UFC London.
After his victory, Pimblett said he wants to compete at a pay-per-view event in the United States toward the end of 2022 as opposed to another Fight Night card in his home country.
White agrees that "The Baddy" is ready for an even bigger push.
"I think what we do next is we take him to either Boston or New York, and he ends up on pay-per-view," White said. "And then you bring him to Vegas."
