Burns eyes eventual rematch vs. Chimaev: 'We're not done'
Former UFC title challenger Gilbert Burns doesn't think he's seen the last of Khamzat Chimaev.
Burns, who lost a unanimous decision to Chimaev at UFC 273 this past weekend, said Tuesday he wants to face him again down the road - this time, in a five-round affair.
"I do believe we're not done," Burns told TSN's Aaron Bronsteter.
The welterweight contenders produced a "Fight of the Year" candidate, trading huge shots on the feet for all 15 minutes of their contest.
Chimaev moved to No. 3 from No. 11 in the rankings after beating Burns, who was No. 2 entering the bout. Burns said he understands that Chimaev will likely fight someone ranked ahead of him next in pursuit of a title shot against Kamaru Usman. With that in mind, "Durinho" is willing to wait a bit for the rematch to materialize.
"I just want one thing back from Khamzat. I want the courtesy," Burns said. "I was No. 2, I fought No. 11."
He added: "Now that (Chimaev is) moving forward, we'll see. If he beats Colby (Covington), he's going to fight Kamaru. I just want my rematch in the next three fights, his next three fights."
Chimaev appears to be on board with a second matchup against Burns down the road:

Burns said that when the UFC offered him the Chimaev fight, he requested that it be five rounds. Ultimately, it moved forward as a three-round bout. The Brazilian is hopeful that the promotion will satisfy his wish next time.
"I believe we got to go more rounds and one guy has to get the finish," Burns said.
