UFC women's bantamweight Holly Holm is out of the Oct. 16 UFC Fight Night main event against Norma Dumont due to a knee injury, sources told Ariel Helwani of BT Sports.

Holm is hoping to return to action by the end of 2021, Helwani reports.

The promotion is working to finalize Aspen Ladd as Holm's replacement against Dumont in a five-round match at 145 pounds, sources told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

This is the second time this year Holm has been forced to bow out of competition for health reasons. The former bantamweight champion previously withdrew from a fight against Julianna Pena because of a kidney issue that required surgery.

Holm, 39, last entered the Octagon in October 2020, scoring a unanimous decision win over Irene Aldana.

The Oct. 16 fight would have marked Holm's first bout at 145 pounds since her victory against Megan Anderson at UFC 255 in 2018, according to Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie.

Ladd, 26, was set to square off against Macy Chiasson last weekend but missed weight after struggling during weigh-ins; the UFC ultimately canceled the fight. The reported matchup against Dumont will mark Ladd's first competition since a win over Yana Kunitskaya in December 2019.

Dumont, 31, is looking to extend her winning streak to three straight after a split decision victory over Felicia Spencer in May and a unanimous decision win against Ashlee Evans-Smith last November.
