Woodley: Paul teammate heckling my mom was 'unacceptable'
A skirmish broke out at the end of the Jake Paul-Tyron Woodley prefight press conference Thursday after a member of the former's team appeared to heckle the latter's mother.
The teams of both fighters traded verbal barbs, with Woodley confronting Paul's teammate after leaving the room where the presser was held.
Afterward, the former UFC welterweight champion - who's set to face the YouTuber-turned-boxer in a professional boxing match Sunday in Cleveland - said he took issue with his opponent's teammate talking trash to his mother.
"One thing I don't do is disrespect. And when disrespect comes to my mother, it's a whole issue," Woodley said, according to ESPN's Marc Raimondi. "F--- this money, f--- this bag, f--- the pay-per-view, f--- the fight. When it comes to that, it will not be tolerated."
Woodley added that he could hear Paul's camp trading words with his mother while he was engaged in a prefight staredown with "The Problem Child" after the press conference.
"They should've said nothing," Woodley said. "They shouldn't ask what's two times two. At the end of the day ... I'm trying to do the faceoff, and I hear them going back and forth with my mom. Any time something is going back and forth, that's unacceptable. I don't care who you are, what nationality you are - that's unacceptable."
Paul said both sides should be blamed for causing the ugly scene.
"Everyone was in the wrong," Paul said, according to MMA Fighting's Damon Martin. "It just makes everyone look stupid."
Paul will look to improve his pro boxing record to 4-0 in Sunday's clash, while Woodley - who parted ways with the UFC earlier in 2021 - will be making his ring debut.
