Aldo shuts out Munhoz in UFC 265 co-main event
Jose Aldo is the gift that keeps on giving.
The former featherweight champion defeated Pedro Munhoz via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in the UFC 265 bantamweight co-main event Saturday in Houston.
Aldo is now riding the first winning streak of his 135-pound career, as he entered the pay-per-view card coming off a victory over Marlon Vera last December.
Aldo stayed busier than Munhoz over all three rounds, though the first two were very competitive. Aldo dug to Munhoz's body with punches and landed solid leg kicks throughout the contest. Munhoz landed a few hard jabs, but Aldo connected with the more impactful shots.
The Brazilian legend looked most impressive in the third frame, attacking his opponent with powerful combinations and briefly knocking Munhoz off his feet with a kick to the leg.
Aldo is now 2-2 as a bantamweight. He dropped down in weight in 2019 and lost a close decision to Marlon Moraes before challenging Petr Yan for the vacant title last summer. The 34-year-old is ranked No. 5 in the division and considered one of the best fighters of all time.
Munhoz, also 34, is ranked No. 9 and is 1-3 in his past four bouts. He entered Saturday's clash coming off a win over Jimmie Rivera earlier in 2021.
