Usman rejects Jake Paul's offer for boxing match
Kamaru Usman wants nothing to do with a boxing match against Jake Paul.
The UFC welterweight champion rejected Paul's offer Tuesday after the YouTuber said he was interested in facing Usman in the ring.
"Keep making your money, young man, and stay on that side," Usman tweeted. "I ain't no Disney kid and I don't play fighting."
Earlier that day, Paul said he was open to a boxing match against Usman and guaranteed the 33-year-old would make more money from the fight than any of his UFC bouts.
"If your boss, Dana (White), gives you permission to box me and make more money than you ever have, let me know and we can lace them up," Paul wrote on Twitter. "I promise it will be your biggest payday."
Paul is 3-0 as a professional boxer after making his debut in early 2020. He's coming off a first-round TKO win over former UFC fighter Ben Askren earlier in April.
The 24-year-old has expressed interest in facing several UFC fighters (and vice versa) since the Askren fight, including Nate Diaz and former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
Former two-division champion Daniel Cormier challenged Paul to an MMA fight Monday, but Paul told ESPN's Ariel Helwani he would accept only a boxing match and believes he would beat Cormier in the ring.
Usman, the No. 2-ranked men's pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC, is coming off a knockout win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 last weekend. "The Nigerian Nightmare" has defended the 170-pound title four times since winning it in 2019.
