Poirier regrets publicizing McGregor donation issue

Dustin Poirier said Wednesday he shouldn't have brought the issue between his charity and Conor McGregor to light.

The UFC lightweight contender said Sunday on social media that McGregor had not fulfilled his promise to donate $500,000 to Poirier's The Good Fight Foundation.

McGregor fired back Monday, telling Poirier that McGregor's team was waiting to find out what the donation would be used for before transferring the funds. The former two-division champion later called Poirier's tweets an attempt at "smearing" his name.

"I am very passionate about my charity as you all know," Poirier tweeted Wednesday. "I jumped the gun and took private matters between Conor and my foundation public. My mistake, we live, we learn."

McGregor's manager, Audie Attar, also responded to Poirier's initial tweets and said it was a "low move" to take the donation issue public.

"Spreading positivity and doing good is my goal!" Poirier continued Wednesday. "I feel like I have brought a negative energy and personal opinions into something I am working so hard on that gives people a reason to smile and cheer. I will take this in stride and continue to fight the Good Fight."

Poirier and McGregor are set to meet for the third time in the UFC 264 main event July 10 in Las Vegas. They squared off in a rematch in January, with Poirier earning a second-round TKO win.
