Adesanya-Blachowicz title fight booked for March 6
The UFC's next title fight has a date.
Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya will move up to 205 pounds to challenge Jan Blachowicz for his light heavyweight title at UFC 259 on March 6, promotion president Dana White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
Adesanya fought twice in 2020. He defended his title with a decision victory over Yoel Romero on March 7 and earned a second-round TKO of Paulo Costa on Sept. 26. The Nigerian owns a spotless 20-0 record.
Blachowicz also last fought on Sept. 26, taking the vacant light heavyweight title over Dominick Reyes at UFC 253. He's won eight of his last nine fights.
UFC 259 will be the third major card of the new year. Dustin Poirier versus Conor McGregor will headline UFC 257 on Jan. 23 and UFC 258 will be held on Feb. 13.
