A heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris has been rescheduled for the UFC's event on May 16, sources told MMA Fighting's Damon Martin.

The event was originally slated to take place in San Diego, but the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) last week banned combat sports events through the end of May.

Overeem and Harris were scheduled to meet in the UFC Portland main event on April 11, but that card, along with two others, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since then, UFC president Dana White has been adamant about moving forward with scheduled events, starting with UFC 249 on April 18.

Overeem and Harris were initially slated to face off at UFC D.C. last December, but the latter withdrew from the fight after his 19-year-old stepdaughter, Aniah Blanchard, went missing in late October. She was found dead a month later.

Overeem lost to Jairzinho Rozenstruik via fifth-round TKO at the event. That defeat snapped the former UFC title challenger's two-fight winning streak.

Harris is riding a four-fight unbeaten streak.

The promotion has not yet announced the new location for the May 16 card. White said earlier this week he has a venue locked down for the next two months. It will reportedly be the Tachi Palace Casino Resort on tribal land near Lemoore, California.
