Rothwell TKOs Struve after multiple low blows
Ben Rothwell defeated Stefan Struve at UFC D.C. on Saturday night, but the win didn't come without controversy.
Rothwell landed two low blows on his opponent before finishing him by TKO late in the second round of their heavyweight bout in Washington, D.C.
Struve crumpled up both times he was struck in the groin, visibly in pain. The 31-year-old kept fighting, but Rothwell finished him off shortly after the second low blow.
Referee Dan Miragliotta took a point away from Rothwell after the second illegal shot, but it didn't affect the fight's final result.
Rothwell rebounded from a three-fight skid with the win over "Skyscraper." The 38-year-old hadn't won since January 2016.
Struve ended a brief retirement ahead of the Rothwell fight. He defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima in February in his most recent bout. But Struve, who holds a 2012 win over current heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, is 1-4 in his past five outings in the Octagon.
