Tito Ortiz: 'I think I can beat Jon Jones'

Bellator MMA

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz has always been known for his confidence, and he believes he can do at 44 years old what no fighter has ever done before.

"I think I can beat Jon Jones," Ortiz told TMZ earlier this week. "I think I got a good chance. I really do think I got a good chance."

For now, though, Ortiz is scheduled to meet former WWE champion Alberto Del Rio in a 210-pound catchweight bout at a Combate Americas event on Dec. 7 in Hidalgo, Texas.

"The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" is coming off a 2018 knockout win over rival Chuck Liddell, 49, and is riding a two-fight winning streak. Ortiz, formerly with the UFC and Bellator, signed a multi-fight deal with Combate Americas earlier this year.

Ortiz said he is still very confident in his abilities despite talk that he's past his prime.

"If people say, 'Oh, Tito, bullshit, you're over the hill,' or whatever, come to my camp. Come train with me. Come wrestle with me. Come do jiu-jitsu with me. Watch my weight training. Watch my biking and stairs that I do," Ortiz said.

He added: "I push myself harder than I pushed myself through my whole career. I'm doing amazing. My mind is just in the right place, my body is in the right place."

Jones, meanwhile, is in his second reign as UFC light heavyweight champ and considered one of the best fighters of all time. He is scheduled to defend his belt against Dominick Reyes in the UFC 247 main event on Feb. 8 in Houston.
