Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort told ESPN's Ariel Helwani on Monday that he plans on coming out of retirement, Greg Rosenstein of ESPN reports.

Belfort, 41, has not signed a new deal with the UFC or any other fight promotion and says he's looking forward to that opportunity.

"I could not choose a better time for me being a free agent," Belfort said, according to Chamatkar Sandhu of ESPN.

Belfort last fought at UFC 224 in mid-May and lost to Lyoto Machida via second-round knockout. He announced his retirement in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro with a record of 26-14-0.
