Jacare Souza felled fellow middleweight Chris Weidman with an overhand right to the top of the dome in the third round of their co-main event bout at UFC 230 on Saturday.

Souza stepped in to fight Weidman as an injury replacement for Luke Rockhold.

The two middleweights traded heavy leather for three rounds and both were bloodied, but Souza landed the decisive blow.

Souza was forced to throw a few extra punches on the downed Weidman before referee Dan Miragliotta stepped in to stop the fight for the third round TKO.

Souza has now alternated wins and losses in his last five fights. He entered the bout ranked No. 5 in the division. Weidman, ranked No. 3, has now lost four of his last five fights.
