Report: UFC may strip Covington of interim title, schedule Woodley-Till at UFC 228
Colby Covington could lose his interim welterweight title if the UFC proceeds with a Tyron Woodley-Darren Till match for the permanent belt at UFC 228, sources told ESPN's Ariel Helwani.
The promotion was hoping to book Covington and Woodley - the reigning champ - for the main event Sept. 8 in Dallas, but the former isn't able to compete on that date for undisclosed reasons, Helwani reports, citing sources.
Covington claimed the interim title at UFC 225 in June with a victory over Rafael dos Anjos. Woodley hasn't fought since July 2017 due to a shoulder injury, but previously stated he'd be ready to return later this summer.
Till, meanwhile, has emerged as a valiant challenger for the title. Though he's missed weight twice in his last four fights, the Englishman has never lost in his professional MMA career and boasts a 5-0-1 record on UFC cards.
