The UFC is in serious talks to book a middleweight title fight between champion Robert Whittaker and the No. 4-ranked middleweight, Kelvin Gastelum, before the end of 2018, sources told ESPN's Ariel Helwani.

Whittaker has been sidelined with a broken hand since defeating Yoel Romero via split decision at UFC 225 last month, but sources told Helwani the champion's surgery was a success.

Meanwhile, Gastelum is riding a two-fight win streak, most recently beating Ronaldo Souza in May via split decision.
