Report: Injury forces Nelson out of UFC Liverpool bout vs. Magny

Steven Flynn / USA TODAY Sports

The UFC's first bill in Liverpool has taken a major hit.

A knee injury will keep Gunnar Nelson from facing Neil Magny in the welterweight co-main event of UFC Fight Night 130 on May 27 at Echo Arena, sources told MMANytt's Damon Martin on Saturday after MMA TakeOver first reported the news.

The Iceland native reportedly may have to go under the knife, according to Martin, and the promotion is expected to seek a replacement opponent for Magny. Nelson had been aiming to rebound from a first-round KO suffered at Santiago Ponzinibbio's hands this past July at UFC Fight Night 113. Magny, meanwhile, was last seen outpointing Carlos Condit at UFC 219 in December.

The bill will be headlined by another welterweight clash between Scouser Darren Till and Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.
