Commission warns fighters of zero-tolerance policy for weed ahead of UFC 225

The Illinois State Athletic Commission has laid down the law ahead of the UFC's June visit to Chicago.

In-competition samples for UFC 225's fighters that reveal any amount of marijuana will be flagged as positive - thereby rendering them subject to potential sanctions - MMANytt's Damon Martin reports, citing a memo sent to the bill's competitors.

"Because of Illinois' no-tolerance policy for marijuana, we recommend that marijuana use be discontinued for anyone participating on the UFC 225 card between now and the event," the memo read.

Those who are prescribed marijuana by a physician can be exempt from the commission's policy, provided they submit proof in writing for the ISAC's approval first. Every one of the event's fighters will still be subject to the USADA's in-competition marijuana limit of 150 ng/mL.

Robert Whittaker will defend his middleweight crown against Yoel Romero in UFC 225's main event at United Center on June 9.
