Despite widespread speculation that he would leave the company after WrestleMania 34 to gear up for another UFC run, Brock Lesnar has signed a new contract with WWE, the promotion announced Monday.

It's unclear how long the new deal is for, or if it will affect Lesnar's potential return to the Octagon. UFC president Dana White assured the mixed martial arts world last week that Lesnar, a former heavyweight champion, was "coming back," though he acknowledged he wasn't sure when.

Lesnar successfully defended the WWE Universal championship Sunday at WrestleMania. He will put the title on the line again April 27 at the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia versus Roman Reigns in a steel cage match.

Lesnar's last UFC bout came in July 2016 at UFC 200. He initially defeated Mark Hunt via unanimous decision, but the result was overturned to a no contest due to a failed drug test by Lesnar.
