Aguilar welcomes ex-Invicta champ Souza to UFC on Austin card
Jessica Aguilar will welcome a former world champion to the Octagon when the UFC takes Texas.
The longtime strawweight is set to face debuting former Invicta FC champion Livia Renata Souza at UFC Fight Night 126 on Feb. 18 at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, sources told MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz on Friday following a report from Brazil's Combate.
Aguilar hopes the third time will prove the charm after dropping decisions to Claudia Gadelha and Cortney Casey 21 months apart at UFC 190 and 211, respectively. The 35-year-old held the World Series of Fighting strawweight crown and defended it twice prior to joining the UFC in 2015.
The 26-year-old Souza makes her first walk to the Octagon after inking a four-fight deal with the UFC in October. The Brazilian has won two straight and all but one of her 12 pro contests, the sole defeat a split decision to Angela Hill that cost her the Invicta crown in May of last year. Souza won four of five under the all-female outfit's banner, her August victory over Janaisa Morandin the only one to have gone the distance.
UFC Fight Night 126 will see Donald Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros square off in the welterweight main event.
