Werdum caps UFC Sydney with unanimous decision win over Tybura

Fabricio Werdum showed no ill effects Saturday from his heavy workload.

Fighting in Mark Hunt's stead just 42 days after submitting Walt Harris at UFC 216 and making headlines for the wrong reasons, Werdum capped a painfully long, decision-filled night with a unanimous decision over Marcin Tybura in the heavyweight main event of UFC Fight Night 121 in Sydney.

The 40-year-old has now won all but two of his 11 bouts in the Octagon since returning to the UFC nearly six years ago.

Werdum - a Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist - predictably looked to take Tybura to the mat early, but the Pole managed to stave off his efforts by exiting through the back door:

Aside from a takedown and a few minutes of work from half-guard and top control in the fourth round, Werdum earned the victory on his feet, pushing a steady pace and throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the too-patient Tybura.

The Brazilian's high output appeared to have sapped his gas tank in the final round, allowing Tybura to pursue the finish he needed with reckless abandon. The Pole wobbled Werdum with a head kick and let his mitts fly far more frequently than in the previous four frames, but Werdum dug deep and matched his volume in the fight's waning moments to put a stamp on his second consecutive victory.

The 32-year-old Tybura's three-fight win streak was snapped by the lopsided verdict.
