Holloway vs. Aldo rematch to be new UFC 218 main event

Tom Szczerbowski / USA TODAY

UFC 218 has its new main event.

Max Holloway will put his UFC featherweight title on the line against former champion Jose Aldo, who will replace an injured Frankie Edgar on the Dec. 2 card in Detroit. The matchup was confirmed on Saturday's broadcast of UFC Fight Night 120 following a report from Ariel Helwani of MMAfighting.com.

Holloway beat Aldo at UFC 212 via TKO to win the belt.

Aldo was scheduled to fight Ricardo Lamas at UFC on FOX 26; instead, he gets another shot at taking back the title he held from 2010 to 2015 and briefly regained after Conor McGregor vacated it in November 2016.

A new opponent for Lamas has yet to be booked for the December show in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
