Report: Jones' CSAC hearing for failed UFC 214 drug test set for December

The California State Athletic Commission will hear Jon Jones' case before the year is out.

The CSAC's Andy Foster told Josh Gross of the Guardian this past weekend that the former UFC light heavyweight champion's hearing, regarding his failed drug test prior to UFC 214, is set for December in Sacramento.

Jones was flagged for anabolic steroid Turinabol, stemming from a sample collected after he weighed in a day prior to his rematch with Daniel Cormier for the July event in Anaheim. According to Gross, the USADA - the UFC's anti-doping partner - handled all of the testing for the event, as per its formal agreement with the CSAC.

The 30-year-old's blood work for the fight came back negative, as did several urine samples and another blood test taken just a few weeks prior to the July bout. However, blood tests don't typically screen for Turinabol.

Jones saw his third-round TKO victory overturned to a no-contest, and was stripped of the title he'd reclaimed at the event when his B sample came back positive last month.

As a repeat offender, the oft-troubled Jones - whose team has blamed his latest trial on a tainted supplement - is facing a suspension of up to four years by the USADA. A hearing with the UFC's anti-doping partner has not yet been booked.

Jones now finds himself in the thick of his second violation of the USADA's anti-doping policy, the first coming just three days prior to his ill-fated date with Cormier at UFC 200. His resulting one-year ban for estrogen blockers had expired just three weeks before he finally faced Cormier at UFC 214.
