Waterson to face Torres at UFC 218

Ron Chenoy / USA TODAY Sports

Michelle Waterson has obliged Tecia Torres.

The pair of strawweights will square off at a star-studded UFC 218 on Dec. 2 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, the promotion confirmed Tuesday following a report from espnW.com's Katie Barnes.

Waterson will look to get back in the win column after seeing a two-fight win streak snapped by a second-round submission loss to Rose Namajunas at UFC on FOX 24 this past April. The 31-year-old sits in the sixth spot of the promotion's divisional rankings.

The fifth-ranked Torres sees her campaign for a date with Waterson bear fruit three months after scoring the first stoppage victory of her career - a second-round submission of Juliana Lima at The "TUF 25" finale. She meets her fellow Invicta FC alum on a two-fight win streak with a promotional record of 5-1.

UFC 218 features a featherweight title bout between reigning champ Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar in the main event, with heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou clashing in the co-headliner.
