Report: Miocic wants to address contract issues before fighting again

Stipe Miocic's shot at making heavyweight history will have to wait.

Despite rumors that the fighter is in talks to defend his UFC title against Cain Velasquez later this year, Miocic's management told Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting that they're not interested in booking any fights until issues with their client's current contract are resolved.

After knocking out Fabricio Werdum to become a world champion last May, Miocic went on to defend his belt against Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos, finishing both men in the first round. Those wins tied him for the most consecutive UFC heavyweight title defenses ever and he's looking to be compensated appropriately for what could be a record-breaking performance in his next appearance.

Miocic's displeasure with his contract stems from the fact that he was paid considerably less than both Overeem and Dos Santos despite entering those fights as the champion.

Citing sources, Helwani added that Velasquez is still recovering from back surgery and any bout between him and Miocic is unlikely to happen before November, if at all.
