Edmonton show becomes UFC 215 after planned August event canceled

Tom Szczerbowski / US PRESSWIRE

On Monday, the UFC announced that its debut show in Edmonton, Alberta on Sept. 9 has been changed from UFC 216 to UFC 215 after a planned pay-per-view in August was removed from the schedule.

The canceled PPV was rumored to be taking place on Aug. 19 in Seattle, with flyweight champion and Washington resident Demetrious Johnson expected to headline.

However, Johnson became embroiled in a dispute with the UFC over whether he would face top-10 flyweight contender Ray Borg or former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw, which meant the main event remained up in the air. The show was also at risk of being lost in the shuffle with an enormously hyped boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather scheduled for Aug. 26.

No main event has been set for the Edmonton show as of yet.
