Omari Akhmedov had a plan to deal with the explosive Abdul Razak Alhassan.

The Russian's wrestling proved to be the perfect counter to Alhassan, an undefeated fighter who'd never before had a bout go longer than 86 seconds. Akhmedov made sure this one went the distance, however, grounding Alhassan repeatedly to eke out a split decision at UFC Fight Night 109 in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday.

Akhmedov occasionally risked exchanging power punches with Alhassan, but for the most part he shot in for takedowns as soon as the action got too hot. He was rewarded for his safe strategy with his second straight win and his fifth in eight UFC appearances.

Despite Alhassan's best efforts, he was never able to get into a rhythm or draw Akhmedov into a prolonged firefight:

Alhassan lost for the first time in his young career, dropping to 7-1 as a professional.
