Lobov calls for fight with 'Korean Superboy'
After going five hard rounds with Cub Swanson, Artem Lobov is ready for another slugfest.
Lobov told Ariel Helwani on "The MMA Hour" that while he doesn't feel he's in position to call his shots following his unanimous decision loss to Swanson, if it were up to him he'd line up a bout with Korean phenom Doo Ho Choi.
"Maybe I can take that Doo Ho Choi fight now," said Lobov. "'The Korean Superboy.' Why not? He was one of the guys that I called out originally, it was either him or Cub. Now we both lost to Cub, the two of us went the distance, the two of us got the fight of the night, so why not? Makes sense, no?"
Choi and Swanson threw down at UFC 196 last December in an all-out war that many pundits pegged as the 2016 Fight of the Year. The fight between Lobov and Swanson didn't match that intensity, but they were both awarded a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus and "The Russian Hammer" wants to keep the good times rolling with another opponent who will inevitably stand and bang with him.
Asked about his thoughts on Robert Whiteford, another featherweight who has challenged him on social media, Lobov reiterated that he will take on anyone, even if it's a significant step down from the Swanson bout.
"I've seen online (Whiteford) obviously wants to fight me at UFC Glasgow. But I don't know, is he back in the UFC or what's the story with him?" Lobov said. "If Sean Shelby sends me his name, it will be a yes for me. I don't turn down fights."
