Manuwa expects title shot or crossover fight if he beats Oezdemir

While all eyes will be on Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, Jimi Manuwa will be looking to be part of the next big bout.

The London-based light heavyweight thinks he'll either get the winner of the UFC 214 main event or a crossover fight with former boxing champion David Haye if he can take down Swiss newcomer Volkan Oezdemir.

"I know the title shot is coming. It doesn't matter whether I get it now, the end of the year or sometime after that. I know it’s coming so I just need my next win," Manuwa told Peter Carroll of MMA Fighting. "I know there are bigger things to come after this fight, whether it’s the title shot or the fight with David Haye. As I said, there are a lot of options and they are big options.

"I’ve just got to get Volkan out of the way and then I can look forward to big things."

Manuwa is the third-ranked light heavyweight behind Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. The 37-year-old has yet to get a shot at UFC gold, nor has he faced Jones or Cormier, but after back-to-back Performance of the Night bonuses, he's picking up momentum.

If he doesn't get his title fight, Manuwa predicts a boxing match with Haye to capitalize on the hype from the Conor McGregor-Floyd Mayweather bout. But he wants to keep his options open to whatever is the best opportunity.

"I've got options so I'm easy. Like Conor says, options are a beautiful thing," said Manuwa. "I can go up and down in weight and I could do boxing."
