Herrig calls for bouts with VanZant, Waterson after upset of Grasso
Felice Herrig was one of Saturday's biggest underdogs, but after overcoming the odds she thinks it's time that the UFC does her a solid.
The 32-year-old strawweight picked up the biggest win of her career by outstriking highly vaunted prospect Alexa Grasso in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 104 in Houston. With three wins in her past four outings, Herrig is eager to keep the momentum going and she named Paige VanZant and Michelle "The Karate Hottie" Waterson as potential candidates for her next fight.
"I would hope the UFC would do the right thing and give me either Paige or Michelle Waterson," Herrig told MMAjunkie. "I wasn't vocal about it, but I was offered the Waterson fight (at UFC on FOX 23), and I accepted it, and then two weeks later, I had it taken away from me and given to Paige."
UFC on FOX 23 saw Waterson submit VanZant inside of a round in the main event, a fight that reportedly drew almost five million viewers. After eight years of MMA competition, Herrig would love to get a share of that spotlight.
Herrig lost a unanimous decision to VanZant last April making a rematch with "12 Gauge" desirable, but she is also interested in a fight with Waterson due to their involvement with the "Fight Girls" reality show in 2007.
"I've been trying to fight her in a Muay Thai fight ever since then," Herrig said. "When I call these people out, it's not in a disrespectful way. I feel really confident in myself again, and I would like to climb the ranks."
