Report: Fedor offered $2M for potential fight with Wanderlei Silva
Two of PRIDE's most beloved fighters could be set to face off at last.
Fedor Emelianenko has reportedly been offered $2 million (USD) to fight for Japanese MMA promotion Rizin on their Dec. 31 New Year's Eve show, according to Bloody Elbow's Karim Zidan, citing Russian site izvestia.ru.
As impressive as Emelianenko's price tag is, the most intriguing part of the report is that Wanderlei Silva is mentioned as his possible opponent. Emelianenko and Silva were two of the most dominant fighters in Japan during the mid-2000s, and Silva once replaced Emelianenko in a 2006 Open Weight tournament.
Rizin CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara has previously expressed interest in a matchup featuring the PRIDE legends.
The 39-year-old Emelianenko has won his past two fights since coming out of retirement with Rizin following a three-year break from the sport. He defeated Jaideep Singh in his first bout back, and followed that up with a contentious decision win over UFC vet Fabio Maldonado earlier this year for a European promotion.
Silva has not fought in an MMA bout since a knockout win over Brian Stann in March 2013. "The Axe Murderer" is booked to compete in an upcoming Rizin tournament, though it appears a bout with Emelianenko would be separate from that arrangement.
