Werdum won't be disciplined for post-fight scuffle at UFC 203
Fabricio Werdum, Travis Browne, and their respective teams apologized to the Ohio Athletic Commission on Saturday following an ugly incident at UFC 203 and will face no penalties, according to Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting.
The two heavyweights met in a grudge match in the evening's co-main event, a wild fight that involved Werdum throwing a flying kick seconds after the bell rang, Browne being allowed to compete with what looked to be a broken finger, and Werdum generally acting like he had zero respect for Browne's abilities.
Werdum won a unanimous decision, but the conclusion of the bout did not quell the chaos. Instead, the tension boiled over to the point that Werdum ended up kicking Browne's coach Edmond Tarverdyan in the chest in response to Tarverdyan stepping into the cage and cursing Werdum out.
No further violence ensued, which may explain why the commission decided to pass on any fines or suspensions after meeting with the parties involved.
"Everyone left on a positive note," said OAC executive director Bernie Profato. "They said they respected the commission and assured this would never happen again."
