Rockhold: 'When the money is right, I'll be ready to fight'

The UFC has seen a lot of dollars roll in this year, and Luke Rockhold wants his piece of the pie.

Perhaps spurred on by the astronomical $4 billion paid to the promotion in its recent sale to WME-IMG, and the blockbuster numbers produced by Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz in their two meetings this year - the rematch reportedly breaking the UFC PPV record - Rockhold is taking a hard stance in his purse negotiations.

The former UFC middleweight champion took to Snapchat recently, giving an update on why he's booked no upcoming matches.

"A lot of people are asking, 'When are you gonna fight?'" Rockhold said, according to Marc Raimondi of MMA Fighting. "I might have a bout agreement in the mail, but the money is bulls---. When the money is right, I'll be ready to fight."

It doesn't help that a rematch with Michael Bisping - who took Rockhold's title at UFC 199 in June - was taken off the table when matchmakers instead decided to give the venerable Dan Henderson the next title shot. That matchup has left Rockhold and several other worthy middleweight contenders in the cold for now.

In the meantime, Rockhold has taken modeling gigs on the side, which are apparently enough to supplement his income until he and the UFC can come to an agreement.

"I definitely want to fight, and I want to get back to that title and get my shot," Rockhold said. "So, it's about making the right move next, and making it worth my while. I'm not going to just go out there and put my body on the line when I can get paid that much more in this world (modeling). So, if they make it worth my while, I'd love to come back. This is what I love to do - I love to fight. But, it's got to make sense."
