Toronto FC superstar Sebastian Giovinco wins Newcomer of the Year award
Sebastian Giovinco's hardware haul continues unabated.
The pint-sized Toronto FC superstar - who led the league with 22 goals and added 16 assists en route to winning the Golden Boot in his first MLS season - has, not surprisingly, been recognized as the league's best new player.
Giovinco, who joined the Canadian club from Juventus prior to the season, won the 2015 Newcomer of the Year award in a landslide on Monday, blowing away both Didier Drogba and Mike Grella to capture the honour.
Giovinco, 28, is the first player in Toronto FC history to claim the award, though his victory sees the honour remain in Canada after Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Pedro Morales won it last season.
Giovinco will look to cap his remarkable, record-breaking debut campaign when Major League Soccer reveals its 2015 MVP on Dec. 2 - an award the Italian attacker is favoured to win over Columbus' Kei Kamara and Sporting Kansas City's Benny Feilhaber.
