Late goal helps Whitecaps caputure win over Real Salt Lake
Sandy, UT - Vancouver Whitecaps FC snatched a late winner to claim a 1-0 victory over 10-man Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday.
The match was even until the 76th minute when RSL's Sebastian Saucedo was given his marching orders for a rash challenge on Mauro Rosales.
Vancouver wasted little time in capitalizing on the extra man as Russell Teibert's superb cross from the left flank was met by Darron Mattocks, who sent a towering header just inside Nick Rimando's left post with just 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
Salt Lake could not conjure an equalizer in the closing stages, dooming the home side to its first defeat of the season.
Vancouver, meanwhile, improves to 16 points on the season to stay atop the Western Conference.
