Johansen, who joined the Manchester City Academy in 2008, trained with NYCFC during the MLS preseason and is arriving in The Bronx on a permanent contract.
"I had a great experience working with squad and coaches during the preseason and I'm excited to re-join the team on permanent basis," Johansen said. "The quality of the training impressed me, as did the way the team came together in such a short period of time."
NYCFC's inaugural campaign has seen Josh Saunders feature between the posts for the club's first four matches of the season and keep a clean sheet against both New England Revolution and the Colorado Rapids.
