The atmosphere of a South American football match is unlike any other in the world.

Unfortunately, the elements that shape those colourful and electric atmospheres have been banned at this year's Copa America, which kicks off in June and will be hosted by Chile.

Specifically, drums, fireworks, flares and the sale of alcohol will be banned at the competition as Jose Roa, the head of the Chilean government's Safe Stadium Plan, believes they undermine security.

"Our aim to create a framework so the football community can enjoy a safe party, and exclude from stadiums those who have set themselves apart from the football community," Roa said, according to the Guardian.

The banning of drums is based on Roa's claim they can impede views and be used to smuggle banned items such as weapons, while the sale of alcohol is banned because it's not allowed at football matches in Chile. A similar law was overturned for the World Cup in Brazil, but Roa insists that won't be the case for the Copa America.
