New York Red Bulls sign U.S. international Sacha Kljestan
The New York Red Bulls acquired the top spot in the MLS allocation rankings from the Montreal Impact on Tuesday, and they didn't waste any time in using it.
In accordance with league rules, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Kljestan, 29, arrives from Belgian side Anderlecht, where he spent the past five years of his career after leaving now-defunct MLS club Chivas USA in 2010.
He's won 46 caps with the U.S. national team, and should slot seamlessly into the center of midfield alongside Dax McCarty for head coach Jesse Marsch.
"Sacha is a great player with tremendous experience," said Marsch. "We feel that he is a great addition to our roster. He fits into the style of soccer that we want to play, but more importantly he is a man with tremendous character. We are excited to add him to the club and feel that his presence will pay dividends both on the field and in the locker room."
