Kaka to make $7.1M with Orlando City, will be highest-paid player in MLS
Brazilian midfielder Kaka has yet to play a game with nascent MLS side Orlando City, but judging by the wages he is set to be paid by the club, he must be getting a bit antsy.
The Major League Soccer Players Union recently released an updated list of salaries for every player in the league, and the former Ballon d'Or winner sits atop the mountain, despite not having played a match – for a club that is not yet in the league, technically.
Orlando City, who made Kaka its marquee designated player when signing him from AC Milan in June, will join the league in 2015.
The league's top earners are:
- Kaka, Orlando City - $7.16 million
- Clint Dempsey, Seattle - $6.69 million
- Michael Bradley, Toronto - $6.50 million
- Jermain Defoe, Toronto - $6.18 million
- Landon Donovan, L.A. Galaxy - $4.58 million
- Robbie Keane, L.A. Galaxy - $4.50 million
- Thierry Henry, New York Red Bulls - $4.35 million
- Tim Cahill, New York Red Bulls - $3.62 million
- Jermaine Jones, New England Revolution - $3.25 million
Frank Lampard, who signed with New York City FC earlier this year and is now on loan with Manchester City, is curiously not listed as a member of the club in the financial report, while teammate David Villa is said to be on just $60,000.
