From a narrow angle, Finlay blasted a rising shot into the top of the net past goalkeeper Evan Bush. Will Trapp set up Finlay's run up the right side with a pass that perfectly split a pair of defenders.
The Crew (11-9-10) moved into fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 43 points in 30 games. Montreal is 6-18-6.
Higuain added his 11th goal of the season in the 58th minute, converting a penalty kick into the bottom left corner.
