Major League Soccer is getting a makeover.
The league, in the midst of a major rebranding process set to take effect in 2015, unveiled a new logo Thursday.
The old look (left) has made way for a sleeker, more traditional design:
In an interview with Sports Illustrated, MLS chief marketing officer Howard Handler said the slash's 45-degree angle represents the fact the game is split into two halves, while the three stars signify the pillars of the brand: Community, Club and Country.
The logo is not exactly unique when compared to other designs throughout the footballing world. A shield is about as common as they come.
That said, it is interesting each team will have its own unique version of the new crest - depending on their club colors - adorning the side of their respective kits.
